Two months pension of the retired employees of the Meghalaya Energy Corporation Limited (MeECL) is released by the Chairman-cum-Managing Director on Monday.
Informing this chairman cum managing director of MeECL Arunkumar Kembhavi said, “We have released two months pension on Monday.”
Earlier, the members of executive committee (EC) of the MeECL Pensioners’ Association (MPA) have decided to stage a dharna on Monday at the office headquarters of MeECL, Lumjingshai, Shillong, over non-disbursement of pensions since April 1st. Asking the agitating pensioners to withdraw their Dharna, the MeECL CMD called them for talks.
After the meeting, the president of MeECL Pensioners’ Association (MPA) M. Kharkongor said, “In the meeting he has given his word that the pension for the month of April and May this year will be clear within this week.”
“ So we are confident and we took his word that whatever he says we respect him and we believe in him so that the crisis will be resolved at the earliest,” Kharkongor added.
Talking about the plight of the pensioners, TM Sangma, General Secretary of the organisation said, “So far we have received information that some of the pensioners have been admitted to the hospital because of tension, the pension has stopped and the tension started.”
He also mentioned receiving a number of distress calls from the pensioners asking them the details.
