Meghalaya and Assam to Form Joint Committee on USTM Concerns

SHILLONG, SEP 4: The governments of Meghalaya and Assam have agreed to constitute a joint committee to address the concerns raised regarding the University of Science and Technology, Meghalaya (USTM).

 

Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma informed on Wednesday that during a recent discussion with Assam’s Chief Minister, they decided to establish a joint committee comprising officials from both states. This committee will examine the various concerns raised by Assam and others, aiming to resolve them effectively.

 

Speaking to Mediapersons, Sangma revealed, “The Assam Chief Minister and I have decided, during a verbal conversation, that we will establish a small joint committee. This committee will include officials from both states and will examine all aspects of the concerns raised by Assam and others. We will also address additional matters as part of this process.”

 

He further stated that the chief secretaries of both states are currently coordinating to formalise the committee’s formation. “All these concerns will be taken up, and we are hopeful that we will be able to resolve most of the issues there,” he said.

 

When asked for further details, Sangma mentioned that the government had received official communication following his discussion with the Assam Chief Minister. “We hope that within a week, this committee will be established,” he added.
