Meghalaya BJP plans to honor the state’s freedom fighters on August 12 and 13

The Meghalaya unit of the BJP
announced plans to honor the state’s freedom fighters on August 12 and 13. Anil Antony, BJP in-charge of Meghalaya and Nagaland on Friday said the party will pay tribute at various memorials and war memorials across Meghalaya that have been built in remembrance of these heroes. In addition to these tributes, the BJP will also organize a Swachhata Abhiyan (cleanliness campaign) at these sites, conducting cleaning drives as a mark of respect. This initiative is part of the party’s broader efforts to commemorate the contributions of those who fought for India’s freedom. Antony also informed the media in Shillong that the BJP state unit will observe the Har Ghar Tiranga campaign from August 11 to 14, in the lead-up to Independence Day.

The campaign aims to instill a sense of unity and integrity among the people of Meghalaya. As part of the celebrations, Tiranga Yatras (flag marches) will be organized in every assembly constituency, encouraging public participation. The events will include bike rallies, marathons, and padayatras (foot marches) where the Indian tricolor will be prominently displayed.

“Various initiatives and programs have been planned across the length and breadth of the nation to make this festival of Independence a truly participatory one. Between 11th to 14th of August all assembly constituencies in the country will witness Tri-ranga yatras in the form of bike rallies, marathons, walks or padyatras and the likes. We appeal to all citizens in Meghalaya to participate in all programs in large numbers,” Antony added.

Furthermore, on August 14, the party will observe Partition Horrors Remembrance Day, recognizing the immense human suffering and the large-scale migration that accompanied the partition of India in 1947, one of the most significant events in the nation’s history.
