Shillong, Dec 9: The Meghalaya cabinet has finalized and approved the schedule for the elections to the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) and Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council (JHADC). The proposal has been forwarded to the Governor for further approval.
Chief Minister Conrad Sangma shared this development, emphasizing that the state government is awaiting the Governor’s nod before officially announcing the election schedule.
“We have today decided on the schedule for the conduct of the elections to the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council and Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council. The entire schedule of the elections has been approved by the cabinet,” said Sangma.
He added, “As you are aware, all of this has to be approved by the Governor, and therefore, once it is approved by the Governor, only then can it be officially announced. The cabinet has now approved and proposed it for further approval of the Governor of our state. So we await that, and once we get the approval from the Governor, we will officially announce and inform the exact dates and schedule of the Council elections.”
