Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma Visits Flood-Affected Families in West and South Garo Hills

 

Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K on Tuesday Sangma toured the flood and landslide-affected regions of West and South Garo Hills to meet with families who have lost loved ones in the recent natural disasters. His visit forms part of the government’s ongoing efforts to assess the damage caused by the calamities and oversee relief operations on the ground.

In Rongkhon Songgital, the Chief Minister met with the family of Bijoy Marak, a teacher whose life was tragically cut short when his car was swept away by the floodwaters. The disaster also claimed the life of his young son, Wian Chigado R Marak. Bijoy Marak is survived by his wife and two children, who are now left to cope with the devastating loss of their family members.

As a gesture of support, Chief Minister Sangma personally handed over an ex-gratia compensation of ₹8 Lakhs to the bereaved family, with ₹4 Lakhs allocated for each of the deceased. This act is part of the government’s immediate relief measures to provide financial assistance to families affected by the disaster.

Throughout his visit, Chief Minister Sangma has been engaging with other grieving families and assessing the progress of relief efforts in these devastated areas.
