Chief Minister Conrad Sangma on Friday announced the recruitment of 2000 additional posts in the police department within six to nine months.
Stating that the challenges are many, Chief Minister said the state Government is targeting to fill-up manpower within this stipulated time.
“We have taken a conscious decision that we will ensure roughly approximately 2000 such posts right now are there where we need to immediately fill up these vacancies .Hence very very fast process recruitment will take place again,” Sangma said.
He further informed that Deputy Chief Minister incharge home is leading this initiative as he had multiple meetings in this regard.
“We are targeting not an easy target because there will be challenges but we are targeting anything between 6-9 months within this tenure of time, we are hopeful that all these two thousand posts will be occupied and we will be able to put manpower in these two thousand posts,” CM said.
The Chief Minister further informed that in different outposts, police stations and different other branches of the police department there is shortage of manpower.
“Hence the policing that we expect, the kind of result we expect at the grassroot, we are not able to get those results because of the lack of manpower in the state police,” he added.
Chief Minister Conrad Sangma on Friday distributed appointment certificates to 1,010 new police recruits selected from a pool of 1.5 lakh applicants. The recruits comprise of various ranks of the Meghalaya Police department.
Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister said, the police department will acquire 100 motorcycles to improve quick response times in emergencies.
“Additionally, we are in the process of establishing an engineering wing in the police department, with the Superintendent of Police (SP) serving as chairman. This strategic move aims to address various infrastructural demands and will also allocate funds for the maintenance and construction of various police facilities,” CM said.
Dr. L. R. Bishnoi, IPS, Director General of Police in his speech said, there is an increase in participation of women this year.
“I am pleased to announce the 22.7% participation rate of female candidates in this year’s recruitment process; a diverse and inclusive workforce will better serve our community and enhance public trust in our department,” DGP said.
Dr. Bishnoi also made a PowerPoint presentation on transparency in police recruitment.
Other present on the occasion were Deputy Chief Minister, Prestone Tynsong, D. P. Wahlang, IAS, Chief Secretary, F. G. Kharshiing, IPS, and M. G. T. Sangma, IPS, at the Shillong International Centre for Performing Arts and Culture.
