Shillong, Jan 30: Minister in-charge of excise department Kyrmen Shylla on Tuesday said Meghalaya envisions to become one of the biggest wine suppliers in India.
When asked about the government’s decision to legalise homemade wine, he said it has been a good initiative and has helped many of the winemakers in the state.
Asked if the state government will set up more wineries in other districts as well, Shylla said, “We will see as per the budget and the requirement, if more is required in other district we will see as per or budget and potential we would love to extend it and one day it is our vision and the Chief Minister’s vision… one day we would like to see that Meghalaya is one of the biggest supplier of the wine if not in the world atleast in India.”
The Minister also said, the government will give free hand to people for those who want to take this wine making; as the licence and paper work can be provided.
