Tura: Meghalaya Games 2024 has unearthed the surprising potential of the state’s youth when it comes to Volleyball, which is not as frequently played in Meghalaya. In future, one wonders if it might become more popular and hence the scope for excellence improved among the youth, especially men.
As the saying goes “Every person has talent, that is a fact, but how will that talent shine if no opportunities are presented?” And it was precisely this opportunity that was given to the young volleyball players of the state at Tura Law College.
In one semifinal held on Friday, the men’s team from West Garo Hills bested their South Garo Hills rivals (25 – 22, 22 – 25, 25 – 23, 25 -16).
In the other Men’s semifinal, South West Khasi Hills beat North Garo Hills (25-21, 17-25, 23-25, 25-17, 17-15)
Meanwhile, the women from South West Khasi Hills District thumped East Khasi Hills (25 – 14, 20 – 25, 25 – 18, 25 – 18)
The other Women’s semifinal saw South West Garo Hills District defeating West Garo Hills District (25 – 09, 25 – 15, 25 – 23)
After the semifinal matches, the third spot (bronze medal match) for the women was held between East Khasi Hills and West Garo Hills District with East Khasi Hills triumphing (25 – 14, 25 – 11, 25 – 20). The Men’s games are scheduled to be held after.
