SHILLONG, NOV 13:Deputy Chief Minister in-charge of Transport, Sniawbhalang Dhar, informed on Wednesday that the Meghalaya government is prepared to start acquiring additional land to expand the runway at Shillong’s Umroi Airport following discussions with the Civil Aviation Ministry.
Dhar emphasized the government’s commitment to advancing the airport’s development, stating, “We will start acquiring additional land after we take a final call in a meeting to be held with the civil aviation ministry.”
Speaking to reporters, Dhar said, “We really want to expand the airport. I had conducted a meeting last month with officials of the airport authority and civil aviation ministry. The meeting was very clear. We want to move forward with the expansion.”
Asked, the deputy chief minister said, “There are certain things we need to get exemption. If we get a green signal from the government, we will decide how much additional land is required. So more or less 16-17 acres of land will be required if the plan is through.”
