Shillong, Dec 11: Meghalaya Education Minister Rakkam Sangma has announced the introduction of science streams in five government colleges and commerce streams in three colleges, creating 258 posts in the process. He further revealed that the state government is set to announce over 1,000 to 1,300 vacancies across various government educational institutions, ranging from primary schools to colleges, within the next month.
Highlighting the decision taken in the recent cabinet meeting, Sangma confirmed that science streams will be introduced in Mawphlang and Mahendraganj Government Colleges starting from the next academic session. Additionally, Sohra, Williamnagar, and Baghmara Government Colleges will offer full-fledged science and commerce streams in the same timeline.
“This development has led to the creation of 258 posts in these colleges, and advertisements for these positions will be released very soon,” Sangma said. “Within the next two to three weeks, we will publish advertisements for the recruitment of over 1,000 vacancies in the education sector, covering higher and technical education, colleges, higher secondary schools, and primary schools.”
The minister also emphasized the government’s commitment to launching academic activities at the newly formed state university, following the recent appointment of its Vice-Chancellor. Plans are underway to introduce postgraduate courses in selected departments from the next academic session, with recruitment for university positions expected to begin immediately.
Sangma added that the combined recruitment initiatives could fill between 1,000 and 1,300 vacancies within the next four to five months, marking a significant step towards strengthening Meghalaya’s education system while creating extensive employment opportunities for candidates within the state.
