In a significant move, the Meghalaya government has constituted an All-Party Committee to deliberate on the establishment of a Winter Capital in Tura.
In the notification, it is said, “The Governor of Meghalaya is pleased to constitute an All-Party Committee comprising of recognized and registered Political Parties to discuss matter related to establishment of Winter Capital at Tura.”
The committee will include representatives from recognized and registered political parties.
“The Committee shall be headed by the Chief Minister of Meghalaya or by a Minister to be nominated by the Chief Minister,” stated Chief Secretary D.P. Wahlang in the official notification.
Political parties have been urged to nominate two representatives each for the committee, which will also invite relevant government departments to participate in the discussions.
The committee has been tasked with examining the feasibility of setting up a Winter Capital in Tura and analyzing the advantages and disadvantages of a dual-capital system based on demands raised by various NGOs and civil society organizations.
Additionally, the committee will seek inputs from all stakeholders before submitting its report to the state government.
