In a turn of events, Jagadguru Shankaracharya Swami Avimukteshwaranand Saraswati Ji Maharaj’s cow protection group has threatened to file a petition in the Supreme Court. This follows the denial of permission for their chartered flight to land at Shillong Airport on Saturday. The group, which was traveling from Agartala to Shillong, was redirected to Guwahati after being prevented from taking off from Agartala.
Raja Saksham Singh Yogi, a spokesperson for the group, expressed the group’s frustration, saying, “We are going back to Guwahati (from Agartala) but will do legal proceedings against the Airport authorities. Very soon, we are just talking to our legal advisor to file the case against both Shillong and Agartala airport authorities.”
He further emphasized that the group did not wish to cause any disturbance. “We are going back to Guwahati as we don’t want to create any kind of mess or disturb the law and order. But we will file a petition in the Supreme Court soon,” Yogi added.
When asked about the group’s intentions, Yogi clarified, “We were coming peacefully just to share our feelings, not to disturb anyone.”
In a press statement issued by the organization, they revealed that upon reaching Meghalaya’s airspace, Jagadguru Shankaracharya Swami Avimukteshwaranand hoisted the Gopratishtha flag.
The statement read, “As per his resolution, Pujyapad Shankaracharya ji Maharaj hoisted the Gopratishtha flag as soon as he reached the skies of Meghalaya and while sending his resolve for cow protection, he sent his message to the Meghalaya government and the people who were protesting, thanked them and said that because of your opposition, we are able to hoist the flag at such a height, in other states we were able to hoist the flag at only 21 feet, but in Meghalaya, by opposing, you gave us the opportunity to hoist the flag at 21000 meters. We will soon make our program of coming to Meghalaya public, we will definitely come, communicate with our people and discuss the message of Gaupratishtha with every sensitive person of Meghalaya.’”
This incident followed a letter issued by the Meghalaya government to the Airport Authority of India (AAI) on Friday. The letter requested that the chartered flight of the cow protection leader be denied landing permission at Umroi Airport, citing concerns about potential disruptions to law and order in the state.
