Meghalaya Govt Targets Districts with Low Board Exam Performance, Announces Special Initiatives

With a focus on addressing the high dropout rates and poor academic performance in board examinations, the Meghalaya government has identified specific districts where students have consistently underperformed. In response, the state is rolling out targeted programs aimed at improving the success rate, particularly in the board examinations.

State Education Minister Rakkam A. Sangma highlighted the government’s mission-mode approach, stating, “We have identified certain districts where the performance of our students, especially in board examinations, is not up to the mark. Special programs have been prepared and will be launched under the CM Impact Program.”

The minister further explained that the government is reaching out to every district, adopting new policies to increase the pass percentage. “We are giving students the opportunity to appear for board exams twice a year, to ensure they have the best chance of success,” Sangma said.

Additionally, Sangma emphasized the importance of fostering a positive learning environment. “Teachers must connect with students, and our institutions must create a conducive environment for learning,” he remarked.

The push for reform follows the release of the 2024 Meghalaya Board of School Education (MBOSE) Class 10 exam results, which showed a pass percentage of 55.80%—the second-highest in the last five years. With these initiatives, the government hopes to further improve academic outcomes and reduce dropout rates across the state.
