Meghalaya Govt misuses Rs. 43 crores meant for COVID 19: RTI

RTI activist Disparsing Rani today alleged that the state government has misused an amount of Rs. 43 crores which was given by the central government in tackling the covid-19.

Speaking to media persons, Rani informed that as per the RTI report received from the ministry of health and family welfare on 20 January 2023, the ministry had approved the proposal for sanction of funds to all state governments as financial assistance in tackling the pandemic.

Rani claimed that the ministry under the central release of grants in aid through the NHM for covid-19 under India covid-19 emergence funds response and health system preparedness packages had released two separate packages for Meghalaya.

“For Meghalaya, the ministry of health and family welfare had released Rs. 15.61 crores for phase I and Rs. 104.12 crores for phase II” said Rani.

Rani asserted that health minister James Sangma in his reply in the last assembly session had claimed that the state government had received only Rs. 76 cores from the central government and this reply contradicts to the RTI report, as report indicates that Meghalaya received all together Rs.119 crores when combine both First and Second Phase.

He added that as per his calculation, it indicates that the health department government of Meghalaya had misused an amount of Rs. 43 crores which was sanctioned by the ministry of health and family welfare government of India.
