To decongest the Shillong town specially around Secretariat area, the state Government will allot two more parking spaces this week.
Deputy Chief Minister incharge of Urban Affairs as well as transport, Sniawbhalang Dhar said, “This week I will allot another two more parking where minimum four – five hundred vehicles can park and few places which has unutilised land with different department we are planning to be taken by the Urban Affairs Department to construct more parking lots to avoid congestion along the road.”
He further informed that the creations of some parking lots are under progress.
Asked, the Deputy Chief Minister said, “Now two (parking lots), tender has been called. Near secretariat forest office before, and few more we are trying to take unused lands from the different departments why to waste it. The discussion is under progress.”
Meanwhile, the state Government will soon shift secretariat and other major Government offices along the Khyndailad (Police Bazar) stretch to New Shillong township soon, a move that will greatly help in decongesting the city.
Dhar informed that the government has already started the process of preparing a plan to relocate these offices, and also call for tender.
“We are trying to complete it in this term only,” Dhar said.
Meanwhile, on air connectivity, the Deputy Chief Minister said the state Government awaits reports from the new consultant was appointed after the report submitted by one of the consultants and after receiving the report, the feasibility will be taken into consideration.
The state government has given forty-five to sixty days for the consultant to submit the feasibility report on expanding the runway of the Umroi airport to facilitate landing of bigger aircraft.
