With escalating Traffic congestion in Shillong town, Meghalaya Government is contemplating to build a maximum approach road so that the congestion is reduced to zero level.
Aiming to reduce the traffic congestion and ensure better connectivity in Shillong as well as the New Shillong Township (NST), Deputy Chief Minister in-charge PWD (Roads) Prestone Tynsong on Monday chaired a meeting on Monday to discuss the future plan.
“We had a meeting today relation to the Shillong city as well as New Shillong town where we are planning to have better connectivity to avoid congestion be it with PWD central Division, be it with by-pass division and also the National Highway division, so all these division I called a meeting along with revenue and Forest we discussed about these issues along with the Deputy Commissioner where we were trying to find out the alignment how to make maximum approaches so that the congestion is reduced to zero level,” Tynsong said.
With a chock-a-block traffic causing furore among daily commuters in the city, the efforts are on to decongest Shillong city and plan out the New Shillong Township (NST).
Asked, Tynsong said that for NST, the government has proposed few stretches of four laning and also “We are trying to make sure that we get maximum approach connection towards the national highway be it Shillong bypass or be it Shillong Jowai national highway.”
“We will create maximum connectivity connecting points in and around New Shillong City,” he added.
Asked if the state Government will seek financial support from the centre, Tynsong said “We will do it.”
