Meghalaya Govt to constitute standing coordination committee in all civil subdivisions along Indo Bangladesh International border at Meghalaya

SHILLONG, FEB 13: Deputy Chief Minister incharge Home (Police) Prestone Tynsong on Tuesday informed that the state government will come up with a notification for constitution of standing coordination committee in all the civil subdivisions along the international border with Bangladesh to prevent any misunderstandings and unfortunate incidents between the local populace and the Border Security Force (BSF).

The decision was taken at a meeting held with the State police and the Border Security Force (BSF) following the alleged harassment of a veterinary officer by the BSF.

Speaking to reporters, Tynsong said that the incident of misunderstanding between the BSF and the veterinary officer had been amicably resolved during a meeting jointly convened at Amlarem yesterday.

“As far as the incident which has taken place, a meeting was held yesterday and mutual understanding  had come in be it from BSF authority or from doctor side or police or civil subdivision – they have already agreed and compromised and the incident or issue was closed yesterday itself,” he said.

About the committee, Tynsong said the committee will be headed by the SDO (Civil) like Amlarem, Pynursla, Sohra, Ranikor, Dalu and others. According to him, the BSF has also agreed to be part of the coordination committee.

“We will have this committee at the sub-divisional level to be headed  by the SDO (C) and members will be the SDPO of those respective civil sub-divisions and the company commanders of the respective BSF camps. Also, we would like to have traditional heads to be part of the committee,” Tynsong said.

He added, “At least, the committee will sit if not once a week, may be twice a month or once a month, they will sort it out those differences wherever arises or even without any conflict or any incident happen, they can always have a meeting and this will be notified very soon along with the terms and reference of this coordination committee.”

“Once this is in place, I am very sure all these kinds of misunderstanding or unfortunate incidents and whatever can be resolved at the earliest possible and locally can be done without spreading those incidents otherwise because social media is very fast, it may in just a split of seconds spread out the entire state,” Tynsong said.
