Meghalaya Govt to renovate and repair dilapidated school buildings within next two years: Rakkam

SHILLONG, AUG 7: Education Minister Rakkam A Sangma on Wednesday informed that the state Government is committed and has already earmarked a budget to construct new school buildings as well as renovating and repairing dilapidated school buildings within the next two years.

 

Stating that the construction of over 200 new lower primary school buildings have been completed while another 100 plus will be completed within this financial year, the Minister informed that there are over 2000 plus government lower primary schools and they have been categorized according to their need and requirements.

 

Sangma said, “In the last five years, we have seen lots of progress and about 200 plus new school buildings have already been completed and within this financial year, we will be having some more 100 plus new buildings.”

 

Asked, the minister said, “In last 50 years, the infrastructure of school buildings was not taken on priority. It is only after the coming of this government that the chief minister in the last five-six years, has taken on a mission mode under mission education, all these buildings have come up now.”
