Meghalaya Govt to sanction 1000 Home stays for the development of tourism

Meghalaya Tourism Minister Paul Lyngdoh the state Government will sanction one thousand Home stays for the development of tourism in Meghalaya by March, 2024. These Home stays will address the issue concerning accommodation to the tourists.

Addressing the Media, Lyngdoh said, the state Government plans to build new resorts at Umiam and Sohra, apart from building a new Five star hotel at Mawkasiang in New Shillong Township.

 

“In the home stay project in the next few months until March we are ready to sanction 1000 Home stays and we have also segregated Rural from the urban centres. Second is we are also coming up with various new projects including a new resort at Umiam, Sohra and at Mawkasiang there is sufficient space for facilitate which has been called Sicpec and now being call LaRiti, we have sufficient space there for the development five-star hotel,” the Minister said.

 

Asked about a large Assam vehicles that are commuting in the city, which also contributes to the traffic jams, the Minister said, he has directed the officers of the department to communicate immediately to Assam so that they can be engaged in a discussion to amicably resolve the issue.

 

 “Coming to the problem of cars and tourist vehicles that enter Meghalaya from Assam, I have asked the officers of the department to immediately start talking to their counterparts in Assam because we should have them on board so that the movement of cars from Meghalaya to Assam will not face problems. You have to engage in a discussion with them so that we are able to resolve this problem in amicable manner because if we decide arbitrarily that we don’t allow and then they hit back by saying we also will not allow you cars to move across Guwahati,” he added.
