Meghalaya Health Worker Succumbs to Rabies, State Plans Vaccine Expansion

A mid-level health provider (MLHP) in Meghalaya, Gracetyfull Marngar, passed away on Monday after contracting rabies. Marngar had been bitten by a dog two months ago but reportedly did not receive the anti-rabies vaccination.

Health Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh, confirming the tragic incident, said, “For reasons unknown, she didn’t take the anti-rabies vaccination, and after two months, she is gone.”

In response, the state health department has initiated a review and is now proposing to make rabies vaccines available even at sub-centres. “This will need a proper study before it can be implemented,” added Lyngdoh.
