Meghalaya police gets first women’s commando unit

It was a proud moment for Meghalaya, the Meghashakti Women Commando Warriors of the SF10 are the 1st Women Commando Unit in Meghalaya and 2nd Women Commando Unit in the country were inducted on Saturday.

Gracing the induction ceremony as Chief Guest Chief Minister Conrad Sangma called it a great day in the history of Meghalaya Police.

The Chief Minister also congratulated the DGP and other officials who played a key role in initiating and ensuring the state’s first women commando warriors.

Expressing his views in the social media,  Sangma tweets-   “The Meghashakti Women Commando Warriors of the SF10 are the 1st Women Commando Unit in Meghalaya and 2nd Women Commando Unit in the country. Honoured to be part of their induction ceremony today.”

“Our Women are second to none and our Meghashakti Women Commando Warriors of the SF10 are bridging the gender gap in a male dominated field. We are inspired by their grit. Congratulations to each of these inspiring women!,” he wrote in another tweet.

Home Minister Lahkmen Rymbui was the Guest of Honour in the induction ceremony & Silent Drill of MEGHASHAKTI-The Women Commando Warriors of SF10,  at 1st MLP Bn., Mawiong.

Home Minister Lahkmen Rymbui said. “Today marks an important day with this induction. Policing nowadays is very dynamic and not an easy job for the police to do their job. Every move and activity is monitored. We are living in a world where we can’t hide anything.”

With the increasing crime rate against women in the State, the dearth of a specialised wing for women safety and security was needed. 52 Women Commandos took pledge to fight against any atrocities happening in the society.

They can rappel down a rope from 100 feet with the same ease and confidence with which they can fire from sophisticated weapons, they are specially trained and armed with the latest weapons they are the Women Commando Warriors of Special Force 10. Shouldering equal responsibilities as their male colleagues, the women Commando Warriors will be tackling law-and-order problems to other exigencies.
