Meghalaya Pushes for Relocation of Harijan Colony, No Information From Defence Ministry

SHILLONG, OCT 25: Deputy Chief Minister in-charge of Urban Affairs, Sniawbhalang Dhar, informed on Wednesday that the Meghalaya government has yet to receive any information from the Defence Ministry regarding the allocation of land for relocating 342 families from the Harijan Colony at Them Iew Mawlong. However, the state government is set to take a final call soon on the proposed relocation.

 

 

 

Speaking to reporters, Dhar said, “We will take a call on the issue at the earliest possible.”

 

 

 

Dhar said that the government is waiting since there is a request made by the delegation of the Harijan Panchayat Committee (HPC).

 

 

 

On the government’s decision to write to the defence authorities for allotting land for the purpose of relocating the residents, the deputy CM said, “We are yet to finalize our decision but we will very soon.”
