Meghalaya tableau at 73rd Republic Day celebration

Tableau of Meghalaya passes through the Rajpath at the 73rd Republic Day Celebrations, in New Delhi on January 26, 2022.

The tableau of Meghalaya on Wednesday graces the 73rd Republic Day parade in New Delhi. The tableau showcased Meghalaya’s 50 years of statehood and its tribute to women-led cooperative societies and self-help groups (SHGS).

While celebrating 50 years of statehood, Meghalaya showcases Bamboo and Cane handicrafts and Lakadong Turmeric, the success and popularity of these products are a testimony to the relentless efforts of the women-led cooperative Societies and SHGs; and their contribution to the State’s economy.

Posting the picture, Governor Satya Pal Malik tweets, “Meghalaya tableau in full glory at the Republic Day Parade today ! A befitting splendid display signifying power of women entrepreneurship to mark the Golden Jubilee Statehood year of Meghalaya ! Jai Hind.”


Chief Minister Conrad Sangma meanwhile, wrote in his social media platform, “The Meghalaya Tableau gracing the 73rd RepublicDayParade2022 on Rajpath not only celebrates 50 years of Meghalaya’s Statehood but also depicts the success story of our Women-led SHG Movement & Cooperative Societies in the State.”

The front part of the tableau depicts a woman weaving a bamboo basket and the several bamboo and cane products of Meghalaya. The rear portion of the tableau depicts the traditional farming and processing of Lakadong turmeric. The Lakadong turmeric, renowned for its high curcumin content, attained its global fame due to the efforts of women-led cooperative societies & SHGs from Jaintia Hills of Meghalaya. The entire value chain is driven by women-led Cooperatives & SHGs, this has been depicted on the tableau.
