The budget session of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly begins on Friday. Meghalaya Governor CH Vijayashankar set the tone for the Budget session of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly with a call for unity and progress, urging legislators to uphold the state’s longstanding tradition of parliamentary decorum.
Addressing the legislators, the Governor said, “This house has an outstanding legacy of maintaining the highest standards of parliamentary decorum, debate, and discussion. I would urge the Hon’ble members to carry forward this tradition, which we are all proud of.”
As Meghalaya advances toward its ambitious goal of becoming a $10 billion economy by 2028, he emphasized the need for collective commitment to development and governance.
“As we continue our ambitious journey to transform Meghalaya into a 10-billion-dollar economy by 2028, we recognize this moment as an opportunity to reaffirm our collective commitment to the development of our great state. Today, we reiterate our constitutional duty to work together towards a brighter future for the people of Meghalaya. Let us unite in our pursuit of progress, driven by our shared vision for a prosperous and thriving Meghalaya,” Governor CH Vijayashankar said.
He pointed to key initiatives such as CM Connect and Hello Meghalaya, which leverage technology to enhance governance and showcase the state’s rich cultural heritage.
The Governor acknowledged significant strides in infrastructure, including improvements in roads, power, and water supply, alongside increased investment in tourism and agriculture. He also reaffirmed the government’s commitment to strengthening healthcare, education, social security, and livelihood programs, emphasizing a holistic approach to development.
Recognizing the state’s peaceful conditions over the past year, he lauded the smooth conduct of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections and the 2025 District Council elections.
