Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma on Monday informed that Meghalaya’s Lakadong turmeric received Geographical Indication (GI) tag.
Announcing this, Sangma said the state is now trying to get Geographical Indication (GI) tags for all the indigenous products, the fruits and the vegetables which are specific to Meghalaya.
“We are very happy that the Lakadong turmeric has the GI tag which makes it unique, which means it is specific to our region. The value of the product goes up and it will help the state in marketing the product at a global level,” Sangma said.
“So we will continue to do the exercise for many many of our local products,” he added.
