MSCPCR launches youtube channel


Child protection in the digital age too goes digital. Meghalaya state commission for the protection of child rights has entered the digital space with the launch of its YouTube channel ‘To the Light’. The channel was launched by Chief Secretary MS Rao. The channel will have programs in English and also in regional languages with Khasi, Garo, and Jaintia with English subtitles.
Addressing the gathering, Chief Secretary, Rao gave detailed information about various legislations for the protection and the benefit of the children, be it POCSO or Right to Education, the tool that is meant to safeguard children.
He said, “While we have so many powerful tools, the truth is the problems still persist and the nation is still struggling.”
He further stated that most of these crimes go unreported, even as he mentioned that another major problem these days is drug abuse.
Amidst this pandemic when creating awareness became difficult, the Meghalaya state commission for the protection of child rights too has entered the digital world.
Iamonlang Mawthoh Syiem, the Chairperson of the commission said, “We cannot do any awareness programme physically so we are living in a digital world and we have to enter that Digital space.”
“How are we going to reach to our children if we don’t reinvent ourselves, and being relevant with time?” she asked.
Stating that there are more mobile phones then people on the planet, she said, “We are developing a relationship with our devices so we have to current where they care if we want to reach some people with some message and to encourage, inspire and comfort because a lot of young people are affected.”
This will also help the young talents to get natured, “ Secondly there are so many amazing video content creators; we would like to give them a platform to come up with creative ideas and during this difficult pandemic time these young children can be financially compensated also,” the Chairperson said.
Also present at the inauguration function was Theilin Phanbuh, former chairperson Meghalaya State Commission for Women and Sampath Kumar, Commissioner Secretary health.
