Do you nip out to get your lunch from your favourite café, or perhaps use the swiggy app to get your lunch delivered to your office? In Shillong, people here mostly prefer rice and lunch is a whole different ball game.

With Shillong turning commercialized, the busy schedule of the people keeps them away from restaurants most of the time. The food culture gradually changes with time.

Moreover, During COVID while the movement of people gets restricted, taking young and elderly people outside for meals is regulated. People now mostly depend on the fooding app that brings food to one’s doorstep.

Inspired by the ‘Dabbawalas of Mumbai’ where food made at home is delivered straight to you, all absent of any technology,  Waniarisa Nongbristarted her tiffin business called ‘Shillong tiffins’  in November 2020.

What if you get ethenic Northeast cuisine at your doorstep at a minimum price?

Sounds delicious? well, “Shillong tiffins service provides a mixture of Indian continental blended with Northeastern style of tiffins,” Nongbri said.

With a small team of five members, Waniarisa Nongbri started her business targeting working professionals.

The tiffin lunchbox is one of India’s most successful concepts. It’s not as you might think: an oblong chocolate cake that you see in Costa made with chocolate biscuits and syrup. That’s the British version. In India, it’s quite the opposite. It’s a homemade lunch, delivered to office workers who can’t go home for their midday meal, which formed the beginning of the humble lunch box.

“We are mainly on social media and we provide lunch and dinner at your doorstep,” Nongbri said.

The service is provided within the city limit with the price range starting for Rs 79.
