NEHU VC Calls for Stability, Assures Recruitment and Promotions

North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU) Vice Chancellor Prof. P.S. Shukla has assured non-teaching staff that recruitment and promotions remain top priorities while urging them to help restore normalcy for the university’s smooth functioning.

In a letter addressed to non-teaching staff, Shukla acknowledged their challenges, particularly the impact of staff shortages on daily operations. He reaffirmed his commitment to resolving these issues, emphasizing that recruitment—initially promised before the winter vacation in November 2024—had been delayed due to recent disruptions but would be completed in the coming months.

“I extend my heartfelt wishes to all stakeholders of NEHU for a joyous and prosperous Holi. May this festival bring happiness, harmony, and renewed progress for the growth and excellence of our university,” Shukla stated.

Highlighting the critical role of non-teaching staff in keeping the university running, he admitted that vacancies had increased workloads, disrupted student services, and caused administrative backlogs. “If we do not address this issue, not only will your responsibilities continue to expand, but students will also suffer. Their academic journey will be impacted, and their future could be at risk—an outcome none of us want,” he warned.

Shukla also addressed concerns over pending promotions, acknowledging the frustration among staff. “I also recognize that many of you have been waiting for your promotions. Career growth is essential, and I fully understand your aspirations. I am committed to processing these promotions as soon as possible. However, to accomplish this, I must be present on the main campus, actively working to complete the process. The recent disruptions have not only delayed recruitment but have also put promotions on hold.”

Calling for cooperation, he urged staff to consider the university’s future. “Now, I ask you to reflect on what is best for NEHU—a university that runs smoothly, where employees feel valued and supported, where students can focus on their education, and where we work together as one team. Or do we want continuous unrest that hinders progress, delays important decisions, and makes daily work stressful for everyone?”

Reaffirming his commitment to dialogue, he assured, “I am here for you. My doors have always been open and will remain open for discussions and solutions. Let us stand together for the betterment of NEHU and ensure that we continue to serve this institution with pride.”
