The Vice Chancellor of North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU), Prof. P.S. Shukla, has extended his leave for an additional 15 days. Prof. Shukla confirmed this development to Meghalaya News 24.
“Yesterday my leave was over and today again I have applied for extension of additional 15 days leave,” Prof Shukla said.
The extension comes amidst delays in the submission of a report by a two-member committee formed by the Union Education Ministry to investigate allegations of mismanagement and administrative lapses at NEHU. The committee, comprising Prof. D.P. Singh, former UGC Chairman, and Prof. Dilip Chandra Nath, former Vice Chancellor of Assam University, was originally scheduled to submit its findings by December 13. However, as of now, there has been no update on the status of the report. It is worth noting that the committee had already received a 15-day extension on November 28 to finalize its investigation.
Prof. Shukla, whose leave was initially set to end on December 14, decided to extend his absence due to the lack of communication regarding the committee’s report.
