After November 9th, the Meghalaya Election Department will issue new EPIC cards with six security features including a hologram for the upcoming Meghalaya Assembly election. The EPIC will be for the new or the fresh enrolment. These new EPIC cards with all the security features will be delivered to the new enrolled electors.
Informing about this, Frederick Roy Kharkongor, Chief Electoral Officer, Meghalaya said, “The new EPIC which has been approved by the election commission will have some high security features, that will make it slightly more secure card than that was before and ofcourse look, design and appearance also it will have some special features.”
“So all states including us will be launching these new cards after the 9th of November this year, they (fresh enrolment) will be getting these new cards after the release of draft publication,” Kharkongor said.
The electors’ photo identity card (EPIC) will forthwith have a hologram, one of the six new security features introduced by the Election Commission of India.
The Chief Electoral officer FR Kharkongor said this feature will be for the new voters as the existing voters can continue with their Epic.
“Those people who have their EPIC can still continue , if they choose to migrate to this new one then there is a process in which you can migrate but those of you who have the old series of cards that are also still valid,” the electoral officer said.
“ For those who have enrolled new, those who have enrolled fresh will be getting new additional cards. If you are an existing card holder and you want to migrate that also you can do. It will be the same epic card with new features,” he said.
He also informed that online one has this NVSP and the voters helpline app so voters can always apply.
“ Ofcouse there you get a digital card, if you want the hard copy of the card then you have to get it from the DC office with the reference number mentioned there,” he added.
