New political party before GHADC poll in Garo Hills

With the term of the administrator’s rule imposed in the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) to be over by April 16, a new political party is expected to log horn in the upcoming council poll.

A former activist turned politician is all set to lead a new regional political party in the Garo Hills region.

In a statement issued on Saturday, Kingstone Bolwari said that the party’s name will be declared soon.

Meghalaya Government is likely to hold the Garo Hills Autonomous District council poll before April 16.

Stating that the party will also be contesting the upcoming elections to the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC), Bolwari said the main agenda for the election will be against corruption.

The other agendas include the need to strengthen the GHADC, demand for more autonomy with more powers and functions and restore it for the betterment of the Garo society, he added.
The GHADC was brought under the administrator’s rule in October last year after the state government’s decision to postpone the election due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The tenure of the present House has expired on October 18, 2020. It may be mentioned here that the election to the GHADC was held on October 12, 2015.
