Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma on Thursday said that the new power policy is likely to be taken up in the cabinet on Monday. Talking to mediaperson, the Chief Minister said that the news state power policy will provide the framework for developing the power sector
“Most likely we will bring up the power policy in the cabinet on Monday,” Sangma said.
The power policy will give thrust to invest in the state owned power plants to produce power as thermal and pump storage are more feasible and profitable projects in the long term.
He further said, the state Government is working hard on the pump storage project which is a great technology.
The government is also working on thermal projects because the scientific coal mining is expected to start soon and thermal power can be an option though there are some environmental concerns but looking at the power requirement and overall need for the state, this can be beneficial.
