Nitty gritty has to be followed before ILP implementation : Hek

Senior BJP legislator AL Hek has stated that implementation of Inner Line Permit (ILP) in Meghalaya will not be easy as Meghalaya being a transit state,  the centre has to go through various nitty gritty  before the ILP implementation.

Defending centre on the delay for the implementation of ILP in the state, Hek said it should not disturb the people who are transiting through Meghalaya.

“Talking about the ILP,  if you see the geographically structure of Meghalaya , it’s a transit state, before implementing that kind of proposal (ILP), it has to be defined that it should not disturb the other people who are transiting through the state of Meghalaya,” Hek said.

Stating that so many technical nitty gritty are required, which needs to be discussed, the BJP MLA said, “There are so many people who want to go to Silchar from Assam, how will they go and apply through Meghalaya and they go and apply for ILP.”

It may be mentioned that there has been an increasing demand for implementation of the ILP in the state. Even the state government is awaiting the decision of the Government of India on the ILP resolution.

In 2019, a resolution in this regard was passed in the Assembly but the State Government is yet to get any response from the centre.
