No Illegal Immigration or Security Concerns Along Indo-Bangladesh Border: Meghalaya CS

Despite reports of drone sightings in various parts of the state, Meghalaya Chief Secretary D.P. Wahlang has claimed that the recent sighting of a Bayraktar TB2 unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) from Bangladesh near Sohra and Shella was an isolated incident. While the drone was detected, no specific information has been obtained regarding its purpose, data collection, or technical capabilities.

“The technical evaluation of what the drone was doing, the data it might have captured, or analyzed is not available to us,” Wahlang explained.

He further stated that no inputs about the incident have been shared by intelligence agencies or the central government. Authorities are likely still analyzing the situation and may provide clarity after completing their evaluation. Wahlang confirmed there have been no additional sightings of drones along the border since the initial detection, describing the event as a “one-off occurrence.” The Meghalaya government continues to work closely with the Border Security Force (BSF) to maintain peace and security along the international border.

“It’s not visual at all. It was a, a one-off event actually,” The CS stated.

The Chief Secretary also assured that there have been no reports of illegal immigration along the Indo-Bangladesh border in Meghalaya in recent months. Speaking to the media in Shillong, Wahlang highlighted that the border has remained peaceful, with the BSF and Meghalaya police maintaining strong vigilance.

“In the border areas, we have not had any problems in the last two to three months. We have not received any adverse reports at all from the border. We are hoping that it will continue,” Wahlang stated. He emphasized that regular intelligence sharing between the state government and the BSF ensures any potential threats from across the border are promptly monitored and addressed.

The state government remains committed to ensuring that the border remains secure and peaceful, with ongoing collaboration between security forces and intelligence agencies.
