‘Not giving ILP to Manipur would be an injustice to original inhabitants of state,’ says Amit Shah.

At the time when the demand for the implementation of inner line permit in Meghalaya is growing louder and people are expressing their agony over the delay by the centre to implement it, the central Government has provided ILP to Manipur saying “Prime Minister Modi decided not giving the Inner Line Permit to Manipur would be an injustice to the original inhabitants of the state.”
Union home minister Amit Shah on Sunday capped off his visit to the northeast with a foundation stone laying ceremony in Manipur’s capital city, Imphal.
Addressing a gathering at the Hapta Kangjeibung ground in Imphal, Shah said, “Prime Minister Narendra Modi had given the biggest gift to the people of the state by promulgating the Inner Line Permit into Manipur as the people of the state had been agitating for the ILP for many years.”
The ILP was enforced in the entire state of Manipur on December 11, 2019, for the protection of the indigenous people.
Praising Prime Minister Narendra Modi for taking the decision to grant ILP to Manipur, Shah said “Modi Ji knows the heart of the people, the demand for the Inner Line Permit for its original residents existed for many years and on 11 December 2019, Modi ji decided not giving the Inner Line Permit to Manipur would be an injustice to the original inhabitants of the state.”
“The Prime Minister granted Manipur the Inner Line Permit, which is the biggest achievement of the Central Government since the state of Manipur came into being,” he added.
The ILP is an official document issued by the concerned state government to allow the visit of an Indian citizen into the ILP promulgated areas or state for a stipulated period and for a specific purpose.
Apart from Manipur, the ILP also now in force in three other northeastern states — Mizoram, Nagaland, and Arunachal Pradesh while various local parties and NGOs are agitating to promulgate the law in Meghalaya.
The Union Home Minister said the North-East has never received such attention earlier and Modi ji has specially visited the North-East more than 40 times in the last six-and-a-half years and has visited all the states, which proves the priority Modi ji accords to the North East.
Highlighting the slew of development projects launched by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government at the Centre, Shah stated that Manipur – “once a hotbed of insurgency” – is now experiencing a new thrust in development, he said, “After the BJP led NDA government came to power, the northeastern region has given the priority in development.”
Addressing the gathering at the Hapta Kangjeibung ground in Imphal, he said that previously, Manipur was known for terrorism, blockades, shutdown, agitations, but at present most terrorist outfits have shunned their violent activities and joined the mainstream.
“Development of northeast region is the mantra (vision) of Modi ji, hence he (Prime Minister) and the central government led by him excelled all-round development of the region — connectivity to infrastructure, development to economic upliftment of all sections of people,” Shah said after laying the foundation stone of various development projects.
