Rajya Sabha MP and former Meghalaya NPP chief Dr. W R Kharlukhi on Tuesday said NPP has never down-rated the Voice of People Party (VPP), but they are yet to be tested.
Talking to Meghalaya News 24, Kharlukhi said NPP has studied the strength of VPP in various areas where they have their legislators as well as where they have their influence and come 2024 MP election and the MDC election, VPP will be tested.
“The VPP have got 4 MLAs, the areas where they get the MLAs, the areas that they have got the influence we know. They are yet to be tested and we will see when the 2024 comes in the MDC and the MP elections then we will know how much their progress is but the only thing is I can tell you that I am sure that 2028 election NPP will get absolute majority,” the former NPP Meghalaya Chief said.
Stating that during the recent Assembly polls even TMC was tested by the people, he said, “We are prepared for every election, we take every election seriously, and we take our opponent seriously. All our opponents are equal, we rate them and based on that we are preparing ourselves.”
Not rejecting the allegation of Congress that NPP is importing candidates from parties like TMC and BJP for setting candidates for the Shillong seat, the former Meghalaya NPP Chief said, “ Politics is such that not only importing but also exporting candidates is also there in politics. We don’t close our door; neither can we shut our doors, so importing and exporting is both ways.”
