SHILLONG, AUG 16: As speculation grows within the National People’s Party (NPP) regarding the potential successor to Rajya Sabha MP WR Kharlukhi, who has indicated his intention to step down after his term ends in 2026, former MP Agatha K. Sangma has been suggested as a possible candidate. However, NPP state president Prestone Tynsong on Wednesday firmly dismissed these reports.
Tynsong expressed confusion about the origin of such rumors, stating, “I would like to know how such a report came out and on what basis.”
When asked about the possibility of Dr. Kharlukhi resigning due to personal reasons before his term ends, Tynsong acknowledged that if personal grounds were involved, it would be a different situation. Nevertheless, he emphasized that any such decision would need to be handled through proper channels.
“If he (Kharlukhi) intends to resign as the MP Rajya Sabha before the term ends, then we can discuss it. As of now, there is no such plan on the part of the party,” Tynsong clarified.
Tynsong’s statement makes it clear that the NPP currently has no plans to replace Dr. Kharlukhi, and any decision regarding his position will be carefully considered if the situation arises.
