Over 16,000 health workers to be vaccinated from Jan 16; State receives 35,000 doses.

Health Minister AL Hek today said the first phase of the covid vaccination programme will be rolled out on January 16.
Meghalaya received 35 thousand doses of corona Virus vaccination as the first batch of the vaccine arrived in the Northeast by a Kolkata-Guwahati cargo flight, touching down on the tarmac of the Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International (LGBI) Airport at Borjhar here on Tuesday evening.
Informing about this Health Minister AL Hek said, “We are getting 35 thousand doses of Covishield, the Serum Institute of India’s coronavirus vaccine, initially 16 thousand health workers from Meghalaya will be vaccinated in the first phase.”
Stating that the vaccination will be rolled out on 16th January, Hek said, “We are making arrangement for the roll-out systematically……we are starting from 16th January for the 16 thousand health care workers.”
According to the health minister, the vaccination drive would start in two districts – East Khasi Hills and West Garo Hills.
Asked, Hek said being a health minister, he is ready to be the first person to get vaccinated at any time.
Meanwhile, Director of Health Services (MI) Dr Aman War informed that the vaccines have reached the state and are stored at the central vaccine store, Pasteur Institute.
“Initially 16,000 health workers will be vaccinated,” he said.
Dr War said the vaccination drive will be launched in 11 sites. These include NEIGRIHMS, Mawphlang CHC, Nongstoin CHC, Sutnga CHC, Pamra Paithlu CHC, Williamnagar civil hospital, Holy Cross hospital, Ampati civil hospital, Resubelpara CHC, Jowai civil hospital and Umsning CHC.
Altogether 11 hospitals and Health centres are identified in 9 districts of Meghalaya.
An Airports Authority of India (AAI) source from Guwahati informed that 20 boxes of the vaccine, each containing 12,000 doses, were brought here from Pune via Kolkata by SpiceJet (SG 7715) freighter aircraft, of which 17 boxes are meant for Assam while 03 are for Meghalaya.
