SHILLONG, JULY 18: Over three hundred people including 67 from Meghalaya on Thursday arrived at Dawki Integrated Check Post, following the nationwide protests in Bangladesh and reported clashes between students and government forces.
The Meghalaya government on Thursday said it is in constant touch with the Bangladesh High Commission and the Indian High Commission , Land Port Authority, Dawki and Exporters Association and has taken up all possible measures for the safety of these students.
So far 202 people from India including 198 students entered through Dawki since the clashes broke out. The authorities said, of which 67 from Meghalaya, and Other state – 131 and four Indian Tourists are there. Also, 101 students from Nepal and 7 from Bhutan have entered through Dawki.
The authorities informed, “The students that came in the last bus left ICP Dawki at around 6:45 pm. The situation is under control and under close watch.”
The Meghalaya government has also activated the helpline number 1800-345-3644 for citizens of Meghalaya who may require assistance due to the ongoing crisis in Bangladesh.
Citizens of the state can call the helpline number 1800-345-3644 of DIPR for any assistance they may need related to the above-mentioned incident.
