During their ongoing tour to the Garo Hills Region, the subcommittee of the Public Accounts Committee visited South West Garo Hills District.
The sub-committee headed by its convener Zenith Sangma, Rangsakona MLA along with sub-committee members George B Lyngdoh, MLA and Lazarus M Sangma, MLA, conducted site inspection of various road projects in Garo Hills which was mainly damaged by recent flood.
They also conducted inspection of Dengnakpara Irrigation Project, whose embankment was washed away by recent floods. The sub- committee also inspected the road to Rongkhongre under Gambegre Legislative Assembly Constituency which was damaged by recent flood and the road is yet to be repaired.
During its inspection to various sites in Garo Hills, the sub- committee also inspected the Balapara PMGSY road. Later, holding meetings with various line departments like Health, police, Agriculture, Horticulture, PWD road, PHE department, Water Resources, C&RD, Border Area Development, the sub-committee took stock of various projects in the district.
Zenith Sangma, convener, sub-committee on PAC said,“We also visited Asinagre Bridge RCC which is yet to be completed and the timber bridge is washed away by recent flood. At present there is no connectivity for the vehicles.”
“We visited ADB Road, one of the best roads in the state got damaged within last six months due to plying of overload trucks of the stone/ boulder exporters,” Sangma said adding, “98km of ADB funded Garobadha to Dalu via Mahendraganj road.“
In over five hour long interaction with the various departments, the Sub-committee also gave various suggestions to the line departments in order to improve the revenue and social sector pertaining to the district and explained about the objective of the meeting.
