Padmashri for Meghalaya Farmer.

The talented Garo Hills farmer Nanadro B Marak has been  conferred with the Prestigious Padmashi Award. Marak, for 30 years, he is growing high-quality black peppers and is an inspiration for many farmers today.

A resident of Tikrikilla block in West Garo Hills district, Meghalaya, Marak has black pepper trees in his mini-forest spread across five hectares.

Nanadro B Marak, is the only Padmashi Recipient from Meghalaya this year, he is among 102 others who will be conferred Padmashi award.

The awards are announced on the occasion of Republic Day every year.

These awards are conferred by the President of India at ceremonial functions which are held at Rashtrapati Bhawan later.

Congratulating Marak, Chief Minister Conrad Sangma tweeted.

“Nanadro B Marak, a black pepper Farmer from #WestGaroHills District, #Meghalaya has been conferred with the prestigious #PadmaShri for his contribution in agriculture in the State. Many congratulations to him!”

Among the 119 selected for Padma award, seven people ​has been conferred ​with ​Padma Vibhus​​han, while 10 names selected for Padma Bhushan award and 102 for Padma Shri award.
