Stating that the Government of India had approved two Battalions for the State of Meghalaya, Pala in a letter to Chief Minister Conrad Sangma said, “…I am urging your good self to expedite the recruitment process of the duly approved two battalions, which will to some extent mitigate the unemployment crisis faced by our state.”

Stating that there is an alarming rise in the rate of unemployment in Meghalaya, the MP said as per the CMIE report the unemployment rate in our state is about 13 percent which is the highest ever in the history of Meghalaya.

He said every year the colleges and universities are producing educated youths who do not have adequate opportunities for employment.

In addition, approximately 2 million youths who were studying or working in other parts of India have returned to the state.

Pala also said although some who were working outside have returned and re-joined their previous employment, there are many who were compelled to stay back as their employers have stated their inability to pay salaries,
