Amidst the speculation of the possible split in the Regional Democratic Alliance (RDA) United Democratic Party leader and cabinet Minister Paul Lyngdoh old Meghalaya News 24 that there is a trust deficit issue between UDP and HSPDP.
With the RDA alliance is treading on a tight rope, Lyngdoh admitted that the things could have been better but there are a lot of apprehensions as both the parties are blaming each other for their failure on the recently held Lok Sabha elections.
Meanwhile, he also clarified that HSPDP will not pull out support from the RDA but would like to contest the Autonomous District Council elections separately.
“Since the matter is not formally conveyed to us we will only be able to discuss the matter more thoroughly when we meet as alliance partners,” Lyngdoh said.
“At the moment they (HSPDP) are still part of RDA but they like to contest District council polls separately,” the UDP leader added.
He however, said the two partners will soon sit and formulate strategies further in this regard.
The simmering tension between two alliance partners is not negligible.
It may be mentioned that the UDP leader has earlier stated that HSPDP will pull out support from the RDA.
Asked, when will be the RDA meeting, he said the president of UDP and HSPDP will mutually agree on a day and notify and accordingly the meeting will be held.
Admitting that there was dissatisfaction amongst some of the UDP leaders about continuing tie with MDA Government, Lyngdoh said 2023 is a clear indication that it was the verdict for the MDA Government as he said the majority supported the views of being part of the MDA Government.
“When you do a thorough analysis of what went wrong, a diverse opinion was expressed, some of those opinions are very strong and harsh against the alliance (MDA alliance), then the overall view of the majority was that 2023 was the verdict in favour of MDA,” Paul clarified.
