Home minister Lahkmen Rymbui today said that the people residing in border areas are very cooperative with the police department especially when it comes to tackling illegal migrants from Bangladesh.

Reacting to the recent arrest of 11 illegal Bangladeshi migrants, Rymbui informed that he is very happy to see that the people of the border area are very cooperative with the police which has resulted in the arrest of all illegal migrants including two locals who facilitate the migrants from Bangladesh..

“Yesterday the VDP of Kuliang village intercepted one vehicle carrying 14 passengers which includes the driver of the vehicle from Assam and 2 of them are local from the village itself” said Rymbui.

Rymbui said that this is a very encouraging sign that the people of the border area do not want their villages to be used by anybody as a crossing point for any foreigners.

He added that the police department has taken initiative to coordinate with the VDP of different villages in border areas so that if there is anything suspicious especially on infiltrators, the VDP will immediately inform the police for necessary action.

When asked on the role of border security force (BSF) when it comes to tackling illegal Bangladeshi migrants, home minister Lahkmen Rymbui said that the BSF is also are doing their role but in this situation especially in the last two weeks due to heavy rain people are taking advantage of the situation.

He added that the police department, the BSF and the people residing in border areas must learn a lesson from the recent arrest of illegal Bangladeshi migrants that whenever there is this type of situation maybe people will try to take advantage of this situation and infiltrate in the country.
