Petroleum Dealers Association of Meghalaya supports police for stopping oil theft

The Petroleum Dealers Association of Meghalaya (PDAM) on Tuesday extended its support to the Meghalaya Police for stopping theft and mixing of other elements to petroleum and diesel along the national highway 6.

This was announced by president of the PDAM, Kennedy Khyriem who stated that as member of the association they have learn that there are certain location along the national highway 6, starting from Jorabad where theft of petroleum products take place from tankers which are meant to load to petrol pump in Meghalaya.

“These individual steal petrol and diesel and sometimes even mix with some other oil to petrol and diesel which will have negative impact to people using these products but finally the Meghalaya Police busted and caught these individual red handed from certain location along the NH-06 right from Jorabad up to Mawryngkneng” claimed Khyriem.

It may be noted that the North East Petroleum Mazdoor Union (NEPMU) had threatened to stop supply of petrol and diesel to Meghalaya from 29 November alleging harassment by the Meghalaya Police.

In this regard, president of the PDAM, Kennedy Khyriem said that the association will not tolerate any harassment by any Police to any truckers or helpers.

“We send this message to the state government, and we salute the police for raiding the place which has been carrying out these kinds of illegal activities for so long. We send a message to the people of the state not to panic” he added.

Khyriem said that the state government through deputy chief minister Prestone Tynsong and minister in-charge Food Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs, Comingone Ymbon has assured that the state has sufficient fuel for 3-4 days and that the government together with the oil companies find ways to ensure continuous supply of oil by providing police escort.
