Police arrests 42 person in connection with Tura violence

West Garo Hills Police have arrested 42 persons in connection with the July 24 violence in Tura. Social activist Jaynie Sangma and Youth TMC leader Richard M Marak amongst the big names arrested by the police. Among the arrested individuals included workers and leaders of TMC and BJP.

Meanwhile, Police also arrested Sengbath D Sangma following his social media threat to Chief Minister Conrad Sangma. Sangma in his social media post calling for an uprising and to attack the chief minister’s residence just like during 30th September 2005.

Police have arrested him in connection with the mob violence in Tura on Monday.

According to the latest update by the West Garo Hills District Administration, Salseng R Marak has also been arrested for his role as prime instigator for making incendiary speech leading to the violence in the event.

“By 11:15PM today, 42 people have been apprehended as accused on the incident of disturbance to public peace and tranquillity during the evening of 24.07.23 at the CM Mini Secretariat, Dakopgre,” The social media update informed.

While stating that valuable inputs were provided by trusted members of the community which aided in their arrest, the DC page said, “Our friends will be rewarded for their commitment towards maintenance of law and order. Please continue to help us to help you towards development of a peaceful and violence free Tura.”
