Acting on a tip-off, South West Garo Hills (SWGH) police in a joint operation with the 28 BN Border Security Force (BSF) destroyed illegal Hemp plants planted in more than a half-acre of land by putting them on fire.
The operation was carried out on Thursday at village Bhoiragopi in South West Garo Hills district. In a press statement, BSF said, “The growth of hemp was at the final stage and ripens enough to be consumed as a psychotropic substance.”
“The land used for cultivation belongs to Mohiran Hajong (35) s/o Kabirtana Hajong r/o village Bhoiragopi,” the release said.
“BSF is working hard to crackdown the syndicates indulged in all activities relating psychotropic substances under NDPS act. BSF intensified its vigil along the Indo-Bangladesh border to prevent any attempt of smuggling of contrabands as well as NDPS substances,” it said.
