Police investigates GNLA regrouping claim

The West Garo Hills police are investigating a social media post claiming regrouping of the Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA) .

A post on social media claiming the regrouping of the militant outfit has created buzz in the western part of Meghalaya.

The release was signed by one Goera Pantora Sangma, the self-proclaimed chairman of the GNLA – Regroup, the new nomenclature of the group.

West Garo Hills Superintendent of Police, Dara Aswaghosh said Police are still verifying the matter.

“It is still too early to comment but our department is investigating the matter. We should be able to provide more details after a few days,” Aswaghosh said.

The release also stated that  the group was reformed on Feb 7, 2023.

The GNLA – R has put forward a list of resolutions that it wants to implement in the region including the end of corruption, implementation of schemes meant for the poor, Garo Customary Law (GCL), ILP beside others.
