Director General of Police (DGP) Dr LR Bishnoi on Tuesday said the state police are likely to submit its report on the regrouping of the GNLA in the Garo Hills region within a week.
Speaking to reporters, Bishnoi said the state police are still verifying the input in this regard.
“All the district SPs are verifying this input in their respective areas. Once verification is completed they will submit their report to us. We have not fixed any timeline as it may take time as some interior areas are there. They have to check and cross check from each and every remote area. I think within a week they will probably submit their reports,” he said.
The DGP said, “The input will remain as input till it is verified. Once the verification report is received at our hand then only I will be in a position to come and talk to you on this.”
“Once the reports are received from all the districts we will be in position to say what the authenticity of this input is,” Bishnoi added.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister, Conrad K. Sangma on Tuesday assured that he would convene a meeting to undertake an internal assessment of the situation over the reports about regrouping of the GNLA.
Stating that the government will obviously be concerned at every level on this development, he however, said that he was not saying that he was concerned in the sense that he was worried or anything like that.
The concern arose after an internal memo by a DSP-ranked police officer, originally intended for circulation among police officers in West Garo Hills, was leaked and surfaced online. The memo indicated that the GNLA was actively regrouping and engaging in recruitment drives throughout the region.
