Police seizes 2.771 Kg of Amphetamine Tablets; 1 held

The Anti Narcotic Task Force (ANTF) of East Jaintia Hills(EJH) police on Wednesday apprehended a drug peddler – Sanju Singh and seized 2.771 Kg of Amphetamine Tablets.

In a statement police said, “Based on the credible source information received that a drug peddler by the name Sanju Singh is proceeding from Silchar to Shillong in a Night Super Bus bearing Regn No. AR-20-9990 and is carrying with him a consignment of illegal contraband. Accordingly, naka was set-up at Ladrymbai Datsimpein, NH-06 near Hill view Hotel and Restaurant and at around 5:00 Am, the aforesaid night-super was detained.”

Further, search of the bus was conducted in the presence of independent witnesses, whereas, the suspected drug peddler was identified and carrying with him two backpacks, one black colour (Labeled Lenovo) and one blue colour.

Superintendent of Police(SP) Jagpal Singh Dhanoa said,“ The two backpacks were checked and from the black colour backpack, three brown packets were recovered. On opening the three brown packets, 149 (One hundred and forty nine) numbers of blue colour sachet were found and inside the sachet an orange/pink colour tablets were recovered.”

“Subsequently, preliminary test of the recovered items was conducted and the test gave a positive result for Amphetamine. The total net weight of the orange/pink colour tablets was found to be 2.771 Kg. The illegal contrabands were then seized, packed and sealed as per procedures under NDPS Act,” the SP added.

“In this regard, a case vide Khliehriat PS Case No. 84(11)2023 u/s 22(c)/29 NDPS Act has been registered and investigation is ongoing to trace the forward and backward linkages,” the police official said.
